About these sizes
A portafilter size is a nominal figure: it names a machine's group and the family of and accessories made for it. It is the first thing to check before buying a , basket, or distribution tool, because parts made for one size do not fit another. The table lists the size each manufacturer states for ten common home machines, with the document it comes from.
Lelit states the Bianca's LELIT58 group as 58.55 mm [7], a more exact figure than a nominal size, and the table gives it as Lelit states it rather than rounding it. Rancilio's documents give no diameter for the Silvia, but two independent specialist retailers publish the same figure, 58 mm Retailer-published [8] [9], so the table shows it labelled as retailer-published with both citations. For the De'Longhi Dedica and Ninja Luxe Café, no figure could be sourced that way, so those rows say so rather than repeating a number from a single shop or a forum. If you own one of these, measure the basket with calipers, or buy parts listed for your model by number.
The size does not settle every question. A portafilter also has to match the group's locking lugs, so two machines with the same nominal size can still need different portafilters. Tampers and distribution tools fit the basket's inner diameter, which can differ slightly from the nominal size in either direction. If you are not sure which model you have, the model number is on the machine's rating label, usually underneath or on the back; pick the machine in the checker to see its basket, tamper and gasket figures too.

How do I find my machine's portafilter size?
Find the model number on the machine's rating label and look it up in the table or the checker. Manufacturers usually state the size in the instruction book's parts list or on the product page, which is where the figures here come from.
Why do some machines show no size?
Because neither the manufacturer's documents nor two independent specialist retailers state one. A single shop listing, a forum post or someone's measurement can describe a different model year or an aftermarket part, so this site does not use them.
Can an adapter make a different size of portafilter fit?
No. The portafilter locks directly into the group head, so its size and lugs are fixed by the machine. What you can change is the basket inside it, within the baskets made for that portafilter.
Are all portafilters of the same size interchangeable?
Not always. Portafilters of the same nominal size can differ in their lugs, depth and spouts, so buy one listed for your model. Baskets of the same size swap more readily, though depth and rim shape still vary between makers.
Which tamper size goes with each portafilter size?
Go by the basket's inner diameter rather than the portafilter size: the tamper's base should be slightly smaller than the basket. Breville names the tampers it supplies by the same figure as the portafilter; the checker shows the manufacturer's tamper for each machine where one is stated.
Do pressurized and non-pressurized baskets come in the same sizes?
Yes: the size says whether a basket fits the portafilter, and the type decides how it brews. A basket has a single exit hole; a one has holes across its base. Each fit sheet lists the baskets its manufacturer supplies.
